A new month, a new life!

So here we go; it is the 1st of a new month. It is also, incidentally, the start of the first full month I will be on this new job of mine, and it feels different. While I will not term it as butterflies in the you-know-where region of the anatomy, it certainly is a feeling of a combination of nervous energy and willingness to go the distance with whatever I have experiemented with!

Today I had taken a break from being involved in that MS Excel sheet of mine - which incidentally is a goldmine of information regarding my bread earners - and just lazed around. A snip-away at the hair - both, the ones on the scalp and face - and a shortish walk around the area was followed by a couple of really, slapstickishly funny TV shows.

I resume my writing from tomorrow, and hopefully I remember the promise that one of my previous posts talks about.

And needless to say, if you are looking for a cricket writer, please feel free to contact me at suneerchowdhary@gmail.com!

A promise I make

For a change, this is not a cricket-related post. In fact, I should add that this is not a post which is directly related to cricket, but there is an underlying, indirect relation. In all probabilities, it may not even come out that ways by the time I end this post, but yes, there is a definite correspondence, on second thoughts.

Today, I was been challenged. Again, not so directly, but there was an indirect reference. I was been laughed at my decision. I was been questioned and I was been probed. And all of it in a tone that did not sound too friendly, that did not sound like it was encouraging.

At the end of the conversation, I still did not know what the future had for me. I did not know whether the decision was right or wrong, whether I should have done what I have done.

But, if I did not know one thing earlier, I did know it now. I am going to try hard, bloody hard at it and give it my full tank. It is going to be at full throttle, it is going to be a never-say-die effort and at the end of it all, if I did not achieve what I have set out to, it would not be for the lack of trying to change the way the world operates.

That is a promise. That is my promise.

Will Team India defend title at ICC World T20?

India will need to play out of their skins to produce a tournament-winning performance! For one, they will not go into the ICC World T20 as underdogs or surprise packages, having won at the previous edition. Secondly, the fatigue factor will always be there, and as the tournament continues, it can only get worse!

So can India retain the cup? Read more at http://www.crichome.com/2009/06/03/does-india-stand-a-chance-at-the-icc-world-t20/223/

Oh, those days of live scoreboards (blackboards)!

As a kid who had to fed a daily dose of ‘galli’-cricket, I often wondered what would happen when I grew up and had to start going to work. Would I then not be able to play this hallowed game of cricket? And what then would happen to watching all those cricket matches on TV? Will offices provide a television on which all those who are interested will be able to at least check the score, if not watch the game in entirety?

In school, we had one television on which only the school’s PT teacher could watch the live cricket matches. The students, and there were many of us, could barely sneak a peek before being shooed away by the man himself. However, he wasn’t as heartless as I make him sound; there was a generous bone in him as well. He would have a blackboard installed outside the room that telecasted the game, and at the end of every second or the third over, he would ensure that the cricket scores were updated.

For me, that was the first experience of ‘live’ scoreboards at work, and the thrill it gave me every time it got updated was immense. I remember having ‘watched’ the two games between India and England at Gwalior long back as a 12 or 13 year-old kid; and especially excited when India chased down a couple of mammoth totals!

Times have obviously changed today and my fear of having no access to cricket during work hours has been majorly overhauled. Cricket scorecards are available at dime a dozen, where as if one is technically inclined enough, one can watch the live streaming of cricket on many a websites.

Downloadable scorecard widgets, live cricket streaming, deferred live cricket streaming, online commentary amongst many of the other features were almost unthinkable some years back. Oh, for that matter, the extensive use of internet was unthinkable.

Today, it is a different world I live in from what I grew up in.

Will Ireland beat Bangladesh?

Looking at the Aussie openers in Brad Haddin and Shane Watson pulverize the Bangladeshi bowlers, one cannot help but feel that Bangladesh's best days as a team are way behind them. Apart from tracks that would help spinners to the hilt, Bangladesh fail to inspire any kind of confidence.

My gut feel is that there is a reasonable chance that Ireland may end up 'upsetting' them!

Tale of Ponting and Smith!

Ponting was hit on his wrist and had an injury scare, while Graeme Smith is desperate to win something really big! Read this here, http://www.sportspundit.com/article/2849/
